So there the audit trail begins...
It's no less an issue of auditing ballot papers there or in a postal vote. Electronic voting is a different story, of course.

Initial trials with earlier elections suggest that it increases turnout. In which case, I suppor it. Also means I can vote in my own sweet time without having to get down to an allotted polling station at an allotted time...

I also saw on the bbc news website the case of a greeting card opened with a complaint that it contained no money signed by the postman...
As I said before, it's dman near impossible to influence a vote by opening post -- once it's opened, the vote is lost, so you can't swing it either way...
