Mowing the lawn.

Don't you love mowing the lawn? Especially when you've left it for six months and made the excuse that you haven't had enough rain-free days for the grass to dry out enough to cut it. No, neither do I. I think prisoners should be given hard labour and made to mow lawns using the old-fashioned manual lawnmowers. It would be a good punishment and it would make a contribution to society.

As it is, prisoners do nothing except watch telly, play table tennis, take drugs and do other things of which I shall say no more, while we poor souls have to put up with noisy machines that get clogged up and have to be emptied all too often. Worse, our neighbours, selfish swine that they are, do the same. Their mowers are, of course, much noisier than ours. We can't hear the telly for their row. We can't open the windows and enjoy the new, fresh, spring air.

I'll tell you what though, I feel a whole lot better when it's done. Those green, close-cut diagonal lines fill me with a sense of pride and satisfaction. I may be miserable most of the time but it doesn't take much to overcome it.

How do you feel about this mundane activity?
